Milwaukee Road Road Number MILW 16606
This 50' standard box car with single sliding door is painted brown with white logo and lettering. The door is painted yellow with large brown 'LRD' lettering for 'Load Restraining Devices.' It was built in August 1957, rebuilt in April 1966, and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. During the rebuild in '66, Load Restraining Devices were installed, apparent from the paint schemethe yellow door with large LRD. These cars were specially equipped to keep loads from shifting during transit, saving the shipper the expense of custom built restraints. The LRDs were moveable walls that could be locked into place. They were particularly useful in bracing stacks of boxes, transporting food and other merchandise. It was a non-insulated car carrying loads tolerant of extreme temperatures.
