This 40' despatch stock car is painted UP Synthetic Red with aluminum roof and ends, has large yellow 'Union Pacific' gothic style lettering, and runs on red Bettendorf trucks. This double-deck stock car in class S-40-13 was built at the Omaha Shops in January 1952, and assigned to road# series 48000-48799. Roofs and ends are painted aluminum to deflect the suns rays in the desert territory. UP had 88 stock cars remaining in the 1978 ORER and continued to run stock cars through the early 1990s.
