USS The Sullivans Navy Series #7

USS The Sullivans was launched in San Francisco, California, on 4 April 1943. By direction of President Franklin Roosevelt it was named for the five Sullivan brothers who lost their lives aboard the USS Juneau when it was sunk by a Japanese sub off Guadalcanal on 13 November 1942. The Sullivans served in WWII, Korea, the Cuban blockade and the rescue efforts of the sub Thresher. It was decommissioned 7 January 1965 and donated in 1977 to the City of Buffalo, NY, where it now resides as a memorial.
