James K. Polk Presidential Car
Road Number 1845-1849
This 40' standard box car with plug door and no roofwalk is car #15 of a 44-car series representing each of the presidents of the United States. It bears the portrait of our 11th president, James K. Polk. The car comes with a commemorative pin replicated from that era. Committed to geographic expansion, Polk was responsible for the second-largest expansion of the nation's territory by securing the Oregon Territory. He then purchased 525,000 square miles in the southwest through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the Mexican–American War.
