TCS CN Decoder for N Scale Split light board locos Part #1278
TCS has filled the void with this tiny full featured decoder. It replaces the 2 light boards on older Atlas and Life Like locomotives. You no longer have to modify the light boards and hard wire in a decoder. Installation is straight forward using accepted motor isolation practices. No frame modification is needs to do the install and minor soldering is needed.

Note: We installed the CN decoder into an Atlas GP9 with dual light boards and found that the clear lenses for the front and rear lights and numberboards were in the way. We removed the clear plastic lenses from the shell and used a 3/16" wide grinding wheel and cut a notch in each of the clear plastic pieces to allow the decoder nose to fit into it. Once reinstalled the shell slipped over the decoder and frame perfectly. Running the loco was a pleasure at all speeds. In all the installation took about 1/2 hour. The white/yellow LEDs on the decoder boards are a nice addition from the factory yellow LEDS that came with the loco.
These boards can be used to convert older high hood locos with frames that are 4" long with minimal modifications such as the Atlas SD9 and the newer Atlas Classic Series Diesels with dual Light boards.
Older locos with the 3 1/14" frame are better converted with a hard wired
TCS M1 or
Digitrax DZ125 decoder.
Now we can get those great older locos out onto the DCC layout with full DCC control.
